Ukeleles are a fantastically small, fun and portable instrument ideal for playing and practicing anywhere! The Ukelele comes in a multitude of sizes, while the most common size is known as ‘the soprano’. The Ukulele is a great instrument for young learners as it is smaller than a guitar and has only four strings. Students can easily learn basic chords and picking which sets them up well when transitioning on to the guitar if they choose to do so. The Ukelele is also undergoing a huge surge in popularity influenced by fantastic young players on shows such as X-Factor, America’s Got Talent and Ukelele groups are popping up all over Auckland and New Zealand.
I offer private and group Ukelele lessons to individuals of all ages either at my home studio in Tairua, Coromandel or I can make home visits depending on timing and availability.
I also do home visits in the following areas:
- Auckland (central, north shore and south Auckland)
Ukelele as a group is particularly enjoyable and I currently teach and play with several small groups of all ages! As with all my music, I focus on teaching and learning ukelele for pleasure, always focusing on the individual. The content of my lessons can largely depend on the age and skill-level of the student, as well as how you’d like to develop your musical skills.
For beginners, who are young or unsure about their motives for learning I cover basic songs, techniques and introduce you to various styles and genres. Many Ukelele students just want to learn how to play their favourite songs and aren’t so interested in the finicky parts of music, and this is no problem for me at all! In this case, a typical lesson would involve looking at songs you’re interested in (within your skill level) and we can sit down and tackle the song together.
I recommend beginning with one 30 – 45 minute lesson per week, although the tuition schedule is entirely flexible so get in touch today and we can discuss your individual programme.
I am pleased to be able to offer a complimentary trial lesson, where we can meet and go through the basic lesson structure and my style of teaching, to ensure you are completely comfortable.
